The Forestry Commission has strongly condemned an attack on personnel stationed at a timber checkpoint facility near Babatokuma in the Bono East Region, describing the incident as a direct assault on state authority and efforts to protect Ghana’s forest resources.<\/p>\n
The incident occurred when an angry mob reportedly vandalised and set fire to accommodation facilities recently constructed for Forestry Commission officers working in the area.<\/p>\n
According to officials, the checkpoint was established to strengthen monitoring activities and prevent the illegal transportation of timber products across borders. The Commission explained that the facility formed part of broader efforts to combat illegal logging and preserve the country’s rapidly declining forest reserves.<\/p>\n
Several officers stationed at the location sustained injuries during the attack and were subsequently transported to the Kintampo Government Hospital for medical attention.<\/p>\n
