Political (Governance):
President John Dramani Mahama has ordered the National Investigation Bureau (NIB) to probe allegations of corruption in the award of government-sponsored overseas scholarships. This follows claims by Kofi Owusu Nkansah, former CEO of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), that some individuals, including members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), paid up to GH¢100,000 to secure scholarships
The President's directive emphasizes the government's commitment to transparency, integrity, and equal access to educational opportunities. The NIB has been instructed to investigate the allegations, identify those involved, and submit findings for consideration and potential action
The Director-General of the Ghana Scholarship Secretariat, Alex Kwaku Asafo-Agyei, has denied the allegations, stating that no scholarships have been awarded for study in the UK under the current administration.
