Social (Health):

Medical lab workers at Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital began a strike on February 4, though some reports indicate allied professionals may be returning to talks.

Medical lab workers at Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital went on strike on February 4, 2026, citing management's failure to address their demands regarding the Central Lab's management and related issues. The strike, led by the Medical Laboratory Professional Workers' Union (MELPWU), is in two phases:

- Phase 1 (Feb 4-8): Outpatient department (OPD) lab services are suspended, with only emergency cases for in-patients being handled.

- Phase 2 (Feb 9 onwards): Total withdrawal of lab services, including Blood Bank and Cardiothoracic Centre.

The union's demands include appointing a qualified Head of Laboratory Services, a substantive Laboratory Manager, and a Director of Allied Health Services, and suspending privatization or outsourcing plans. The strike is expected to significantly disrupt health services at the hospital
