Ghana's High Commissioner to Nigeria, Baba Jamal, has emerged victorious in the NDC parliamentary primary for Ayawaso East, garnering 431 votes against Hajia Amina Adam's 399. The win has been marred by claims of vote-buying, with allegations that delegates received gifts, including 32-inch TVs and boiled eggs, from Baba Jamal's team. He maintains the gifts were harmless and not intended to sway votes.
In response, President John Dramani Mahama has ordered Baba Jamal's immediate recall as High Commissioner, emphasizing the need to maintain public office integrity. The President noted Baba Jamal's involvement in the controversy as a serving public officer prompted the decision.
The NDC is investigating the allegations, and sanctions may follow if wrongdoing is confirmed. Baba Jamal has thanked supporters for his win, calling for party unity and framing his victory as a collective achievement.
